Sun, April 24, 8:00 to 9:30am PDT (8:00 to 9:30am PDT), San Diego Convention Center, Exhibit Hall B

Abstract

Abstract:
Educational leadership programs are in unique position to support the development and growth of equity-focused educational leaders (Johnson, 2016). Course embedded field experiences provide an incredible opportunity to advance equity for P-12 schools and districts as aspiring educational leaders focus on meaningful and authentic projects that focus on diversity, equity and inclusion efforts in our nations’ school districts. These field experiences can serve as catalysts for advancing equity and increasing the knowledge base of educational leadership candidates. This study revealed that course embedded projects provided authentic exposure and experience with Radd et al.’s (2021) five equity-focused leadership practices. Furthermore, emerging themes have implications for the intentional design of course-embedded field experiences to prepare educational leaders for equity-focused leadership.
