This multi-methods case study examines the experiences student leaders have with how administrators within a Division of Student Affairs (DSA) engages with diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) issues at a public land-grant research university. Framed by interest convergence (Delgado & Stefancic, 2017) and social exchange (Emerson, 1976), the following question guides the study: What are the experiences of student leaders with how DSA administrators engage with issues of DEI at a public land-grant research university? Three findings highlight issues needing to be addressed to increase social exchange and appropriately address interest convergence: (1) conforming to White norms, (2) “performative” leadership, and (3) student leaders’ dissatisfaction with DSA administrators.
