Abstract

Reimagining educational systems through the arts advances environmental awareness. The session is structured with a narrator introducing the effect of climate change on global bird migration. The performing artist/dancer illustrates through a choreographed dance, lightness, defiance of gravity, changes of weight, speed, body-part isolation, and quality of motion movement elements of aviary flight. The narrator and performing artist discuss and showcase choreographic possibilities detailing how climate change is effecting the timing and length of bird migration. The performing artist leads a workshop on yoga poses focusing on bird postures such as swan, pigeon, and eagle. The narrator explicates the components of a multi-faceted yoga and dance performance underscoring the impact of interdisciplinary science and dance teaching and learning.
