Critical race theory (CRT) is under attack. The perceived threat of CRT is fueled by critics suggesting it teaches divisiveness and hatred. This panel examines the abstractions of critical race studies occurring nationwide concerning schools and universities. We are scholars that draw upon critical race studies, ethnic studies, and feminist methodologies to understand the complex ways racialization shapes the educational experiences of minoritized communities. We advance the methodological tools of CRT through critical qualitative papers that: 1) examines CRT to underscore the literacy practices of youth of color; 2) expands CRT for archival research; 3) proposes a framework connecting CRT with coding educational research; and 4) calls for a Critical Race Genealogical approach to implementing and defending CRT method(ologies).
