Session Type: Symposium
This symposium includes both empirical and theoretical papers to explore the discursive moves in the racialization of Latinx education. We provide theorizations on how Latinxs experience racialization and racism in education institutions and related spaces on discursive, policy, and individual levels. As a panel, our presentations push for rethinking assumptions about the boundaries in the racialization of Latinx students and show how Latinx-specific racism contributes to the forming of such educational boundaries. The symposium’s presentations show both how our language and policies restrict Latinxs’ access to educational opportunities and how to work toward equity through activism and envisioning naming our own futures.
