Session Type: Symposium
This session offers new insights into the means by which women leaders seek to disrupt inequity and enact equitable education systems for all in their countries. Addressing AERA’s theme, “Cultivating Equitable Education Systems for the 21st Century,” and the International Studies SIG’s mission, we present five research investigations from Brazil, Costa Rica, Ireland, Senegal, and United States. Each examines scholarship that engages with a variety of stakeholders in these countries, leading to the transformation of education in authentic ways for the public good. Presenters explore how women activists in education in several international contexts and from diverse cultures share common ethical perspectives on the moral imperative to embrace educational responsibility through efforts that result in actionable narratives, policies, and practices.
