Session Type: Symposium
Established and emerging critical scholars in education (K-20) convene an integrated and collaborative symposium to begin a courageous conversation about ways equity can manifest itself through research labs; a scholarly endeavor that includes aspects of teaching, service, and mentoring. Reflection papers by faculty directors and lab members are presented, representing labs from across the country at selective universities. Using critical theoretical perspectives, such as intersectionality and politicized care, the team discusses how they leverage institutional resources to form research groups and labs that disrupt systems of oppression. Key takeaways for session attendees include (a) underpinnings that drive the work, (b) resources for beginning a humanizing lab, and (c) critical reflection on issues of positionality at individual and institutional levels.
