Session Type: Symposium
Chet A. Bowers (1934-2017) was a provocative educational theorist during the late 20th and early 21st centuries. In this symposium we will provoke further reflection on and broader consideration of Bowers’ scholarship in curriculum studies, EE, and with the EE SIG as it relates to research across AERA. Each panel author will explicate key tenets from Bowers’ theory while pointing to current and future possibilities for EE research. Aligned with the AERA theme, the panel authors will each share their paper while at the same time, collectively respond to the overarching question: How can EE research cultivate equitable education systems for the 21st century that recognizes and values diversity, sustainability, and democracy as central to social justice and ecojustice?
