Session Type: Symposium
This session aims to contribute to education research that prompts engagements with Black girlhood as an inherently dynamic and plural category by functioning as a venue for examining the geographies of Black girlhoods. The session brings together scholars investigating various aspects of place, space, and time (in terms of the life trajectory from girlhood to womanhood, interrogating that false binary) and the impact on Black schoolgirls’ (or school-aged girls’) educational experiences. Given the relative nascence of this area of educational inquiry, ample time will be reserved for audience interaction and discussion in order to build collective understandings and illuminate a path forward for education research(ers) situated in the interdisciplinary field of Black girlhood studies.
