Session Type: Symposium
Scholars have defined a new politics of educational policymaking where venture philanthropists hold significant influence over public institutions. Increasingly, charitable foundations are turning to intermediary organizations (IOs)—or entities that exist between grantors and grantees or policymakers and policy implementors—to manage large-scale investments and realize student success and institutional accountability agendas. In this symposium, a diverse set of scholar-practitioners who have worked with IOs will discuss what defines these organizations and their role in cultivating more equitable and effective higher education systems. A central question presenters will discuss is if and how IOs can leverage the resources of national philanthropic organizations while helping institutional and system leaders remain responsive to the local needs of their employees, students, and communities.
