Session Type: Symposium
Protests over the 2020 police killing of George Floyd galvanized school boards across the country to re-evaluate the role of police on school campuses. These institutional changes in many locations, however sudden they may seem, have come about after at least a decade of the organizing work of students, educators and community members. This symposium brings together academics and the perspective of voices from the field to explore the positions and experiences of various stakeholders, as well as to describe the nuanced conditions that have allowed for recent changes in school policing policy in many districts nationwide.
