Session Type: Symposium
As the saying goes, “You can’t pour from an empty cup”, yet scholars of color combatting racist educational structures while fighting for equitable and safe experiences for students are often left with an empty vessel. This harmful oversight contributes to systemic inequity by minimizing the humanity and holistic health of scholars of color who remain on the frontlines of battling racist educational structures daily. Aligned with the 2022 AERA Conference theme, this session argues that in order to cultivate equitable education systems, education must re-set (Ladson-Billings, 2021), reimagine, and reclaim the wellness and holistic health of intersectional lives of scholars of color who are the lifeline of the continued battle for equitable and anti-racist education.
