Session Type: Symposium
Although the history of white supremacy in the U.S. is as old as the country itself, we must have critical analyses for what to do about the problem now -- with whiteness in this present moment. This session features papers that engage with critical theories of race and critical qualitative methods in order to analyze the complexity of how whiteness has shifted through recent “racial awakenings” in ways that look like progress, yet remain entrenched in the longstanding traditions of the historical phenomenon of hierarchical race-making. Considerations are offered for understanding the moment we are in, and what we might do next in order to combat whiteness in this next era.
