Session Type: Symposium

Abstract

This session focuses on the education and career pathways of Asian/Asian American Ph.D. holders, based on studies on “vertical mobility” that embraces education and career step-ups, and “horizontal mobility” that forms geographic mobility often beyond national borders. Altogether, the presentations enable a comprehensive discussion of the recent trends and issues over the education and career pathway of Asian/Asian American Ph.D. holders. Mobility and lifelong learning are inseparable in the current economy. Workers are expected to be flexible in moving between organizations, between occupations, and between geographic locations. The session has been designed to encourage discussion from participants in the session to exchange ideas and opinions over the emerging international role of the higher education community.
