This international symposium will bring together researchers on AI in education to discuss the latest advancements in the field, the current promises and opportunities and how this may play out in the education sector. The discussion will seek to identify new research questions in the area to inform these further developments. A starting point will the recent synthesis of the frontiers of AI in education internationally, the OECD Digital Education Outlook 2021: Pushing the Frontiers with AI, Blokchain and Robotics, an edited volume bringing together the analysis of leading scholars in the field. The symposium will build on ongoing initiatives in different countries: the United States (e.g. the NSF AI Institutes on engaged learning and on Adult Learning and Online Education), ongoing projects in China, Finland, etc. Beyond the acknowledgement of current research efforts, the symposium will discuss the possibly differentiated impact that AI can have on education across different countries and education systems.
