Transnational Migrant Communities/Borderlands Education

Sun, April 24, 8:00 to 9:30am PDT (8:00 to 9:30am PDT), San Diego Convention Center, Floor: Upper Level, Room 11A

Session Type: Invited Speaker Session

Abstract

While the global pandemic has taken much media attention away from asylum seekers near the southern border of the United States and the migrant communities that have existed near the border for centuries, inconsistent policies towards asylum seekers and migrant communities continue to impact life in many border communities including those local to the San Diego area. This panel discusses research related to borderlands education, support for migrant communities, and how offering opportunities to undocumented students, mixed documentation status families, and borderland communities can help us to best honor a commitment to justice and inclusive democratic principles in education.
