This study draws on Black women’s unique approach to effective teaching beyond the boundaries of what they learn in their preservice programs (PSP). Our research points to the significance of the Femmenoir Pedagogy of Black women educators because it emphasizes the need to center Black women in PSP as experts using their socio-political location to harness their strengths and radically imagine ways to overcome racism and sexism in their preparation. Drawing on the work of Black womanist scholars, the authors analyze data from personal narratives, in-depth interviews, and focus groups with seven Black women who went through PSP. Findings suggest Femmenoir Pedagogy arises from missing elements in PSP and shapes the success of Black women educators.
