Incorporating Economic Evidence in Systematic Reviews in Education

Mon, April 25, 9:45 to 11:15am PDT (9:45 to 11:15am PDT), SIG Virtual Rooms, SIG-Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis Virtual Paper Session Room

Abstract

Evidence on costs and other economic information is rarely included in systematic reviews and meta-analyses in education. We address the existing lack of guidance on this topic by adapting guidance from the Cochrane Collaboration, providing a framework for including economic evidence in systematic reviews and meta-analyses. Our four-step framework will help reviewers locate, analyze, and interpret economic evidence in the review process. We will additionally provide sample templates for coding and reporting economic evidence.

A nuanced consideration of economic evidence adds to the promise of systematic evidence syntheses, enhancing them with important and actionable information for decisionmakers.
