Research indicates young people have a long and rich history of participating creatively in liberation movements that demonstrate their agency, resiliency, and ingenuity as agents of social change. Despite this history of youth leadership, a perpetual and damaging narrative surrounding the intersection of youth identity and people of color lingers. The purpose of this study is to conduct a six-month critical performance ethnography to investigate how Latinx youth perform their multidimensional identities to embody transformational resistance within an arts-based youth participatory action research group and multigenerational theater ensemble. As a result of this study, I offer implications for educators who strive to pedagogically equip young people with creative tools to respond culturally, agentically, and artistically to inequity in their communities.
