Qualitative research should play a pivotal role in the future directions of education policy and practices for addressing overrepresentation in schools. Therefore, I conducted a qualitative meta-analysis on the overrepresentation of Black, Latinx, and Emerging Bilingual students in special education. Specifically, I wanted to understand the causes of overrepresentation, experience of students in special education, and ways educators can address overrepresentation. Using critical race theory, findings reveal that teacher preparation and education needs to be a catalyst for addressing the causes of overrepresentation and unjust experiences in special education.
