A Chicana Testimonio to Higher Education: Cultivating Latinx Students' Equitable Educational Caminos (Paths)

Thu, April 21, 4:15 to 5:45pm PDT (4:15 to 5:45pm PDT), San Diego Convention Center, Exhibit Hall B

Abstract

My Chicana testimonio decolonizes research by embracing and sharing intersectional experiences with high school and college students in the institutional partnership, Entrada de Colegio Program; as a high school pre-collegiate and career readiness program, the partners embrace the brilliance of the students by utilizing culturally responsive and feminist transformational, pedagogical and social justice practices framed in community cultural wealth. Our Latinx identities, Spanish language, gender, cultural beliefs, practices, and ways of knowing centralize the commitment to disrupt the hostile, spirit-murdering systemic learning environments; offering sustainable educational attainment, academic achievement, college enrollment and college retainment, the Latinx students explore the intersecting truths of my testimonio and together we rise authentically, declaring resistance, and imagination in a more just and equitable society.
