The objective of this symposium is to discuss recent theoretical and empirical advances in eye-tracking research on teacher noticing. On a theoretical level, the symposium aims to contribute to sharpening the theoretical discourse around the notion of noticing with new models and integrative syntheses of research on teachers’ professional vision and visual expertise (Paper 1, Paper 5). On an empirical level, the symposium includes three novel eye-tracking studies that examine differences between novice and experienced teachers. These empirical illustrations highlight the significant role of noticing for classroom orchestration, teacher judgment of student understanding, and student- teacher dialogue (Papers 2, 3, and 4). The symposium is complete with a commentary of a highly esteemed scholar on eye tracking and teacher noticing.
