Division L Mentoring Session for Early Career Scholars: Research and Professional Mobility in Unsettled Times

Wed, April 20, 1:00 to 4:00pm PDT (1:00 to 4:00pm PDT), San Diego Convention Center, Floor: Upper Level, Room 11B

Session Type: Pre-Conference Mentoring Session

Abstract

This session will help early career members (1-5 years post-doctorate) think about and navigate the particular challenges of careers in research and policy in the ongoing pandemic. A panel of senior researchers will discuss dilemmas and possibilities and answer questions related to research, teaching, and service in this context. Then we will break into mentoring groups, facilitated by panelists and other Division L Mentors, to explore a range of issues, including: data collection during COVID, grant writing, teaching and advising, finding mentors, navigating racism in professional contexts, work-family justice, and non-academic writing/social media. A reception will follow. We will arrange pods to provide virtual mentoring post-AERA for those unable to join in San Diego. Co-chairs are Kevin Gee, Andrew McEachin, and Sarah Woulfin.
