Abstract

Currently there is a lack of diversity in STEM disciplines. In order to provide opportunities within STEM to diverse groups, the present study presents a description and evaluation of a one-credit workshop and mentoring program for undergraduate women interested in exploring different opportunities within the field of statistics. This workshop was offered as an online class at a large Midwestern university during the spring 2021 semester. A description of the program is provided as a model for other researchers interested in creating similar experiences. Initial evaluation of the program is conducted based on student and mentor feedback and results indicate that the program was generally well received. Areas for future work, including extending the program to additional populations, are explored.
