Abstract

Florida Educational Research Association - Better understanding of the intersections of culturally responsive pedagogy and sociocultural theoretical underpinnings and experiential knowledge of literacy practices in the classroom setting as it relates to teacher education training is critical because teachers play a pivotal role in providing children with favorable environments for literacy learning. Moreover, missing from the literature is how the early literacy acquisition beliefs of HBCU preservice teachers impact their literacy practices. This study seeks to understand the correlational relationship between the number of reading courses embedded with field clinical experiential hours taken by HBCU preservice teachers and their beliefs about early literacy acquisition.
