Abstract

Socioeconomic and technological advancements require education institutions to focus more on the development of students’ 21st-century skills. For instance, the expansion and changes in the use of digital resources, call for students to develop critical thinking and civic online reasoning skills. Simi-larly, current labor demands led to discussions regarding the improvement of general civic, profes-sional and teacher education. This symposium presents four studies analyzing challenges and advances in developing such crucial 21st-century skills in education, for example, using authentic real-life tasks, decision-making and judgment that both teachers and students may face in professional and public life.
