Over the last decade, the field of education has explored the application of improvement science to solve complex problems of practice. Recently, there is an increasing concern that improvement science as it is currently conceptualized, may be oversimplified, which makes it insufficient for equity work. In face of this challenge, the concept of equity-centered improvement emerges. As the inquiry into the concept is still in its infantile stage, it is unclear what equity-centered improvement entails and what it takes to implement it well. This study contributes to this inquiry by using an exploratory qualitative case-study approach to construct a competency framework that guides the generation and use of evidence for equity-centered improvement.
