Teaching Artificial Intelligence in K–12: Innovative Learning Designs in an Evolving Landscape

Sun, April 16, 8:00 to 9:30am CDT (8:00 to 9:30am CDT), Hyatt Regency Chicago, Floor: West Tower - Ballroom Level, Atlanta

Session Type: Symposium

Abstract

A growing consensus that students must be prepared for the fast-changing world powered by artificial intelligence (AI) has motivated several efforts to promote AI education under the broader goals of computer science (CS) in K-12. The time is ripe to examine what this evolving landscape of K-12 AI education looks like. This panel invites researchers to share their early explorations into teaching K-12 learners about AI. Through creating and examining innovative experiences that encompass disciplinary, social and affective aspects, these projects are tackling exciting challenges to bring this emergent, interdisciplinary topic to young learners. This panel serves as a rich opportunity for comparison and discussion to help advance the state-of-the-field and articulate a research agenda for K-12 AI education.
