Abstract

How can education leaders know if they are providing educational equity for students with disabilities and multilingual learners? What questions must be asked and what data should be collected to answer those questions? Expanding on the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine’s Monitoring Educational Equity, we have developed the Deepening Educational Equity Tool to examine educational equity for students with disabilities and multilingual learners. The tool has two parts; the first synthesizes existing equity indicators specific to multilingual learners and students with disabilities (e.g., IDEA and Title III monitoring data), and the second provides additional data sources to shed light on student experiences. This paper describes the tool and results from a pilot study with 10 district leaders.
