Graduate Student Council Session. Ambitious College Student or Unreliable Debtor: The Future of Student Loan Debt

Fri, April 14, 11:40am to 1:10pm CDT (11:40am to 1:10pm CDT), Hyatt Regency Chicago, Floor: West Tower - Ballroom Level, Regency D

Session Type: Invited Speaker Session

Abstract

Higher education is arguably the key to successful economic and social outcomes. However, the way in which higher education is financed is unsustainable. The student loan debt levels in the United States have reached $1.6 trillion. Our current over-indebtedness has transitioned the image of the ambitious college student to the unreliable debtor. Join us for this fireside chat where we will talk about the possible implications of the proposed $20,000 in loan forgiveness, the likelihood of seeing other proposed forgiveness models, and the future of funding higher education for the next generation.
