The Cobble of Care Work in Online Teaching: A Collaborative Narrative Account From Three Teacher Educators

Abstract

We are three white women who are also teacher educators in two states. The purpose of this inquiry was to document the tensions we experienced in doing care work for our students as online teachers coming into and moving through the pandemic. In meeting together, telling our stories, and then reliving those stories, we considered how work as online teachers simultaneously draws on our labor as women, while also providing affordances that we appreciate and need as women. In working to understand how to sustain ourselves and prepare future teachers, we ask: How can we create those spaces for our students? How do we advocate for ourselves?
