In this paper, we examine how undocumented students with and without DACA navigate the college graduation process and transition out of higher education. Little is known about this significant life event that can involve numerous new challenges and opportunities for undocumented students. Thus, to begin understanding this transition, we conducted a longitudinal and exploratory qualitative study that involved three interviews with 23 participants over one year. The data revealed that for undocumented students, graduating from college involves renegotiating their roles within society and their families. Participants perceived their transition out of higher education as permanent, prompting them to redefine themselves since they were no longer “students.” We conclude this manuscript with implications for higher education research and practice.
