Although previous studies highlighted the racialized experiences of Staff of Color (SOC) in student affairs (Anderson, 2021; Bazner, 2021) and Faculty of Color (James et al., 2021; Rideau, 2021), limited research has examined the experiences of SOC in academic affairs, who promote the academic mission alongside faculty and students. Grounded in Racialized Organizations theory (Ray, 2019), our qualitative study illuminates the experiences of full-time SOC working in academic affairs within a PWI and identifies organizational norms and practices that contribute to racial inequities in SOC experiences. We found that SOC in academic affairs experience intersecting forms of oppression manifested through their workplace environment, impacting their career trajectory and well-being and further rendering them invisible within PWI.
