Abstract

The study evaluated the effectiveness of custom developed simulations on student’s conceptual understanding of chemical equilibrium. A Mixed methodology design guided the study. An independent samples t-test was found to be statistically significant, t (23.84) = 8.619, p < .001; d = 3.33. The effect size for this analysis (d = 3.33) was found to exceed Cohen’s (1988) convention for a large effect. These results indicate that participants in the experimental group (M = 7.27, SD = 1.387) received higher scores on the test instrument post intervention than did participants in the control group (M = 2.67, SD = 1.371). KR-20 analysis was conducted to establish reliability (Cronbach’s alpha = 0.71). Conditional probability analysis was employed to establish construct validity.
