Abstract

In this conceptual paper, we interrogate educational research by reimagining the role of teacher residency programs. In rethinking teacher residency programs as democratic hubs rather than institutional programs. we center the co-construction of institutional and community knowledge. To conceptualize teacher resident programs as “third spaces,” we draw on the metaphor of Central Park in NYC to discuss the permeability of boundaries and accessibility to all. We center our framework on three pillars: a) decentralization of knowledge; b) historization of knowledge; and c) implementation and creation of knowledge to reimagine teacher residencies as a democratic hub in the pursuit of truth where educational research can be designed to matter in practice not only in institutions but for the public good.
