Uncover Teachers' Movement and Eye Movement Patterns in Virtual Reality: Relevance for Visual Attention Performance

Abstract

To develop teacher’s professional vision, it is essential to identify the components that influence their visual attention. The possible impact of individual differences in how teachers move and distribute visual attention in the classroom setting is unclear when identifying the sources of teachers' visual attention performance. Based on time series data gathered during preservice teachers' instruction in a VR classroom that was completely standardized in terms of the environment and events, we classified their movement and eye movement patterns in the current study. The teachers' actual visual attention performance—that is, how frequently and quickly they attended visually to misbehaviors in the classroom—was then correlated with the classified patterns.
