We explored a 6E model story-based English intervention by adding a new phase (enrich) to the original 5E model with third-grade students in China. The intervention consisted of structured weekly-occurred virtual professional development at teacher level; and 6E scripted story lessons highlighted with multiple enriching components delivered at student level. In terms of enrichment, our interactive story lessons were integrated with science, and structured to engage students in developing receptive and expressive vocabulary knowledge. Students took live speaking classes with native English-speaking teachers, and did fun take-home activities with parents. Two vocabulary measures were developed to determine whether the intervention contributed to students’ oral language development. Results revealed they benefited from participating in this innovative story-based English intervention.
