Abstract

Extended Reality (XR), including virtual reality, augmented reality, and mixed reality, has attracted significant research and theoretical interest in many disciplines. In this review paper, we focus on the application of XR technologies to improve daily living skills (DLS) for individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). A total of 14 articles met our inclusion criteria, and the review revealed that, interestingly, DLSs such as driving and job interviews are the two most frequently examined DLS in the current literature. Most reviewed studies utilized VR technologies for the training interventions. None of the reviewed interventions have been replicated by two or more independent research groups. Implications of the findings are discussed.
