Demolishing Silos, Building Bridges, and Kindling Black-Brown Freedom Dreams: A Systemic Model for Teacher Diversification

Abstract

Educational institutions’ espoused intentions for diversifying their workforce rarely translate to productive action. And when it does, these actions are often superficial in nature, leading to isolated instances of tenuous success. This conceptual paper documents scholar-practitioners' research and development of a systemic pathway model for teacher diversification. Through ongoing collaboration with national leaders in teacher education, school-community partnerships, ed policy, and racial-justice education this paper shares the results of a learning pathway model that systemically attends to the needs and potentialities of BIPoC individuals across varying levels, contexts, and stakeholder groups. Within this session, participants will be invited to interact with components of the model, share insights, and offer critiques to reimagine more hopeful and emancipatory pathways for BIPoC educators.
