Abstract

We report from a design study that engaged a class of transnational and immigrant high school youth in multidisciplinary digital storytelling about their local school and home neighborhoods. We focus on two aspects of their project work: (1) the hyper-local context of the school neighborhood and (2) students’ identities as ethnically and linguistically diverse first- and second-generation immigrant or transnational students who maintain lived experiences and relationships across two or more nation-states. Through multimodal analysis methods of student artifacts, we look at these two aspects in their investigations and stories in terms of truths around power dynamics among students and community members
