Abstract

There has been growing interest in the educational applications of immersive virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR). However, there have been scarce empirical studies that directly compare the learning affordances of AR and VR, and no studies that we could find that compare their use in inquiry-driven and collaborative learning contexts. Therefore, this study aims to conduct comparison between the two technologies in collaborative learning environments. The results showed that overall positive learning outcomes in both environments. In the group comparisons, AR group students performed better on a more difficult and complex task compared to the VR group students. In addition, students used each device in a different manner.
