Abstract

There have been a number of efforts to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in the field of educational measurement since George Floyd’s murder in May, 2020. Simultaneously, some scholars have offered historical overviews of the educational measurement field (Briggs, 2022; Clauser & Bunch, 2022) and center key pioneers that have contributed theories, formulas, and practices to the field. There has not, however, been an explicit focus on how eugenics has played a role in the academic genealogy of key historical figures in the educational measurement field. Therefore, using a genealogical framework, this article examines key figures in the field and their relationship to eugenics. Key implications related to this investigation, as well as recommendations for next steps, are included.
