Thu, April 13, 4:40 to 6:10pm CDT (4:40 to 6:10pm CDT), Hyatt Regency Chicago, Floor: East Tower - Exhibit Level, Riverside West Exhibition Hall

Abstract

COVID-19 and its lockdown policies have substantially impacted the lives of parents and children. Long-term exposure to responsibilities related to parenting increases family conflict, making parents and children more prone to stress and mental health problems. The present study applied an actor–partner interdependence model approach to investigate the association between COVID- 19-related stress, parent-child relationship, and mental well-being among parents and children. The results indicated that both actor and partner effects of parent COVID-19-related stress were significant. Parent-child relationships (closeness and conflict) also affect their mental well-being. To promote psychological adjustment after covid-19 outbreak, effective family-based mental health and parenting interventions are needed to promote family cohesion.
