White Allyship and Antiracist Praxis: A Discussion of Three Case Studies

Thu, April 13, 11:40am to 1:10pm CDT (11:40am to 1:10pm CDT), Fairmont Chicago Millennium Park, Floor: B2 Level, Imperial Ballroom

Abstract

This paper critically examines three white educators engaging in antiracist inquiry to better understand how they position themselves as white antiracist allies, and how this positionality informs their approach to antiracist praxis. Findings from this qualitative multiple-case study indicate that the ways in which white teachers approach allyship is informed by their positionality, background experiences, and self-perception of their role in antiracism. The purpose of this paper is to explore the role of white allyship in shaping and supporting antiracist praxis.
