From Here to There: Black American Women Pre-K–3 Teachers of English Learners in the United Arab Emirates

Abstract

Drawing on theories of teacher knowledge and Black feminism, this case study explored the ways in which four, Black American women English-medium teachers (EMTs) leveraged their personal and practical knowledge (PPK) in Pre-K-5 United Arab Emirates classrooms. This session highlights findings that show how teachers' lived experiences of learning and teaching played a role in shaping their teaching practices. The findings will offer the field new perspectives on the contributions that trained and licensed Black American women school-teachers bring to the international ELT context.
