In the context of teacher education, the digital portfolio is recognised as a powerful tool for reflective practice, building connections, showcasing oneself and lifelong learning. Despite the current popularity of digital portfolios, there is no systematic means of evaluating the corpus of data embedded in the digital portfolio system. A learning analytics framework can help fill this gap by providing visibility into how students engage with the digital portfolio platform. The purpose of this research is to augment the digital portfolio with a learning analytics system, and explore ways in which learning analytics can be utilised to optimise, improve and transform learning and teaching in teacher education. Preliminary findings, implications and future directions will be discussed.
