Employing youth participatory action research (YPAR), a critical qualitative methodology that involves co-researchers and the leading researcher collaborating on the research processes through a shared power approach , the present study examines and addresses rural Black students’ college-going culture experiences. College-going culture permeates throughout the high school in the study and extends into the broader rural community, which encompasses immediate, extended, and chosen family as well as community members and resources. Considering the positive influence of the broader rural community, the Black youth in this study serve as the change agents of shaping their access to higher education.
