This study provides two case studies of technology-based culturally responsive assessment (CRA) programs our team is developing. We use these case studies to illustrate how principled design frameworks, particularly Integrated Design and Appraisal Framework (IDAF) can guide the design of CRAs. We contend that three interrelated values are foundational to the design and use of CRAs: (1) concern for maximum construct representation; (2) accountability for the social consequences of assessment design and use; and (3) justice for populations impacted by assessment. In our presentation, we will elaborate and substantiate contentions related to these two case studies.
