A Scoping Review of Tools and Resources to Assess Early Learning in Emergency Contexts

Sun, April 14, 3:05 to 4:35pm, Pennsylvania Convention Center, Floor: Level 200, Exhibit Hall B

Abstract

Education is a fundamental human right for all children worldwide. Unfortunately, for children living in refugee camps, early learning programs are beyond the scope of legislation related to compulsory education. Thus, it is not surprising that early learning programs that do exist in refugee camps are often limited in scope and ability to document and assess learning. This research uses a scoping review methodology to analyse and present major topics focused on tools and resources used to assess early learning and development in emergency contexts. We present the current state of knowledge surrounding early years assessment in these contexts and highlight the gaps and challenges in need of further research.
