Nature-based education programs center much of their curriculum in the local place-based environment. Limited research has explored the scope of science and engineering learning opportunities in nature-based classrooms. This case study of a nature-based preschool classroom examined a nature preschool teacher’s communications about curriculum and program activities in order to understand the STEM education addressed in an emergent child-centered curriculum over two years. The preschool curriculum was nature oriented and children participated in STEM activities throughout the day. Findings indicate that children engaged in life science and science practices most frequently, but addressed all STEM disciplines and science and engineering practices throughout the year.
